Mefi stuff: NYT article about turkeys, Flavor Flav alarm clock, Umberto Eco on the future of books, showandtellmusic adds mp3s, rottentomatoes adds games, Modern Drunkard's 86 rules of boozing. Perhaps my favorite: 67. Never ask a bartender “what's good tonight?” They do not fly in the scotch fresh from the coast every morning.

Why, yes, I am obsessed with top-whatever lists. Here are indie-rock site Pitchfork's top-100-albums-of-the-'90s choices, from 1999 and today.

The LA Times just ran a three-part series about 'The Wal-Mart Effect.' Between this and their Michael Jackson coverage, I've been reading a lot of the LA Times lately.

Part two--Scouring the Globe to Give Shoppers an $8.63 Polo Shirt
Part three--Grocery Unions Battle to Stop Invasion of the Giant Stores

Taken as a whole, I can see why Hasbro wanted to distance themselves from these words. That's not to say, however, that I agree with the decision. My favorite thing about the OSPD2 definitions is the way they seem to enumerate levels of offensiveness--from none whatsoever all the way up to 'an offensive term.'

Sometimes considered vulgar: pee, piss
Often considered vulgar: bubby
Usually considered vulgar: arse, bullshit, crapper, fart, frig, nooky, shit, twat
Usually considered obscene: cunt, fuck

Along the same lines as metababy, and from the mefi thread, the Uploadit random picture gallery, the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression's Virtual Community Chalkboard

It's not easy, but it's important that you think of nothing and empty your mind. It's absolutely necessary that you concentrate on your breathing. Don't think of the pain; know that it will pass.

On BMEzine, an interview with the goatse guy? Surely it's not. The page is perhaps best viewed without images.

Here's an essay about anti-utopian themes in my favorite Simpsons episode. And, appropriately via metafilter, metababy. A page where people can post whatever content they like. I removed a background image, and saw something about Joe Rogan.
