"Deep inside I feel that this world we live in is really a big, huge, monumental symphonic orchestra. I believe that in its primordial form, all of creation is sound and that it's not just random sound, that it's music."--Michael Jackson, to Ebony's Robert E. Johnson. Here's a
new GQ article about Michael Jackson. Here's an
old one.
I'm going back some day, come what may, to book bayou:
Stealing Buddha's Dinner, Bich Minh Nguyen
A memoir about growing up Vietnamese-American in the Midwest
Girl Who Played With Fire, Stieg Larsson
I should probably read the first one first.
This is for the Mara Salvatrucha, Samuel Logan
MS-13 is the new boogeyman gang. Neat tattoos, too.
River of Darkness, Rennie Airth
The
NYT Book Review made this sound really good.
Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed, Marc Blatte
I'm probably not going to read this one. It had a blurb from a James Patterson coauthor on the back.
NPR just played a snippet of a Nightmares on Wax song. I wonder if anyone told them it's from a record called
Smoker's Delight.
So, y'know that movie based on that teevee show that was created by a toy company as a program-length commercial that could be aired without violating then-present restrictions on the amount of advertising shown on children's television?
Not that I'm not nostalgic, but I don't think I'll be watching it.
